"The sewing fervor really erupted in April 2020, almost immediately after the CDC said everyone should wear face masks," said Jeff Fuller, vice president of marketing for Tacony Corporation. "It was a Friday when the new guidelines were announced. By Monday, we saw the largest spike in sewing machine demand we've ever seen."(https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/13/business/sewing-machines-demand/index.html)
Sewing is a hobby and/or a way of making a living that is almost inexhaustible in its possibilities. You can sew clothing, alter clothing, make craft items, sew upholstery, make purses, handbags, or pet clothing, or sew for interior decorating-pillows and window treatments. (My favorite-sewing for interior decorating!)
Sewing has also become very popular as a means for up cycling a variety of things. Hundreds of ideas can be found on Pinterest for this one sewing idea.
People who have an interest in sewing generally have a some basic questions on how to get started. I will help as much as possible with a few of these questions.
What kind of machine do I need? Consider what you need or want a sewing machine to do. An upholstery sewing machine is a lot different than a basic garment or craft sewing machine. As is a quilting, or embroidery machine. Also consider your budget. How much money do you want to spend on the sewing machine? https://sewguide.com/buy-used-sewing-machine/ This site has good information on buying a used machine. I like the tip "buy metal over plastic." Consumer Reports has knowledgable information for almost any purchase you are going to make. Here is their handy review for sewing machines. https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/sewing-machines/buying-guide/index.htm
What tools do I need? I have a one stop answer for that question. The only other thing you need is a pattern.

3. How do I learn how to sew? It doesn't do any good to buy a machine and tools and not learn how to use them. Since different people learn different ways, (and hopefully you know best how you learn) I am going to give you a couple of different of options. One of the most helpful printed tools for sewing that I have found is an ebook that you can download for FREE from this site: https://www.craftandfabriclinks.com/sewingbook/sewbook.html
If you are a visual, show me kind of person, perhaps you need a Craftsy class online: https://www.craftsy.com/sew/sewclasses/ or their are so many tutorials on you YouTube that may interest your fancy.
