The Garden Game

Every summer I play the garden game. The goal of the game is to see what new plant you can grow, or grow more of, or grow easier. Simply put, it is to learn to garden better. I almost always grow at least one new vegetable. Just to see how I like it. You know fresh veggies always taste better than canned. I like to plant new herbs and flowers also. They add beauty and health benefits to my garden and life.
I enjoy gardening as exercise. I often don't think about the muscle benefit or even amount of time I am exercising when I am in the garden. I'm not thinking about the pain, just the gain.
This information is taken from an Old Farmer's Almanac July 6, 2021 email.

I use garden produce as gifts of encouragement or love. A beautiful bouquet of flowers often says so much more than words can say. Fresh fruits or vegetable can meet a need in a life or family. Meeting a need is the greatest way of showing love.
I eat! My favorite win of this game is a big beautiful Charleston Grey watermelon, or German Johnson tomato, that I just picked from my garden. There is no better tomato than one grown from a local garden.
I love to teach others how to garden or how to enjoy a garden at least. The wonder on a child's face after picking their favorite vegetable is priceless.

I enjoy the visitors that come to garden in the form of small, beneficial wildlife. Sometimes a mental image of beauty is what you treasure from that day.

I would encourage you to play the garden game. Start small until you learn the "rules" and techniques. Once you win a few rounds, you will want to play again.
Another day I will try to share some tips that help me win at the game, but for now I will inspire you with some pictures of my own "trophies".

A Siamese twin tomato?

Bronze muscadines also called scuppernongs

Apple mint
